Company history
Since 1 May 2014, Josef Kihlberg AB is part of the Signode Industrial Group,
a group with a strong international character.
The company, which dates back to the 1800s, currently employs 35 people. We develop, manufacture and market world-leading tools and staples for industrial stapling and transport packaging.
An important part of the Josef Kihlberg strategy is to be involved in the entire product process, i.e. in the development, manufacturing and marketing of our products.
The business began in 1841 when Alderman Emil Synnergren started his hardware store at Sandtorget in Hjo, a small city about 100 km north-east of Gothenburg.
1907: The hardware store name was changed to Kihlberg & Källmark Järnhandel.
1918: Josef Kihlberg took over the business.
1943: In-house production of staples and staplers commenced.
1968: The hardware store in Hjo was closed.
1970: Josef Kihlberg AB started its own sales company in Finland.
1976: Josef Kihlberg’s grandson Ove Larsson became the owner of the company.
1981: Sjötofta wire rope mill was purchased.
1984: New sales companies in the United States and Norway were established.
1985: Haubold-Airfix GmbH was acquired and the name changed to Haubold-Kihlberg GmbH.
1992: A sales company, Haubold-Embrag AG, was started in Switzerland.
1997: Air-Hammer s.r.o. in the Czech Republic was acquired.
1998: Josef Kihlberg purchased British Ind. Fastening, Liverpool. Since 2000, it operates under the name Josef Kihlberg Ltd.
2006: As of October 2006, Josef Kihlberg AB with its subsidiaries is part of ITW (Illinois Tool Works Inc.) of the United States.
2014: The Carlyle Group bought ITW Packaging Group on 1 May and now operate under the name of Signode Industrial Group.
2018: Signode Industrial Group is bought by Crown Holding inc.
